Gasbarians and Renegades To Storm Railway

A massive night of rugby in Railway was announced today, when two overseas sides come to Park Avenue on the evening of Friday 8th March to take on the Railway Legends and the Railway Women’s sides.

Taking place on the eve of the Ireland France 6N game, ‘Les Gasbarians’ will be the latest French side to try to take the Railway Legends 100% record.  Playing out of Pau in the south-west of France, Les Gasbarians will be travelling strongly and will be confident following their unbeaten tour of Wales last season.

Legends Captain Bobby Brennan said he loved all things French.

“I’ve always admired the French and have always enjoyed playing against them.  Their anything-goes style of confrontation and traditional approach to rucking endears them to me.  Given these boys are from the south west of France, we are talking proper rugby too, not that fancy-dan rubbish they play in Paris,” said Brennan.

After the Legends game, and all the way from the USA, the Monmouth Renegades take on the Railway Women’s side.  Playing out of New Jersey, Monmouth is Railway Legend Pat Moroney’s club, where he is the current coach of Monmouth Men’s 1st XV.

“The Monmouth Renegades have been keeping a close eye on the Railway Women’s very impressive results this season.  They couldn’t believe they went a whole league campaign without conceding a point.  Our girls are really looking forward to the game and their trip to Ireland and it should make for a very interesting game,” said Moroney.

Railway Women’s Captain Aoife Maher said it would be a novelty for the girls to play an overseas side.

“Most of the girls have never played an overseas side and we are quite excited by it.  There is a big curiousity as to what Monmouth will be like and the style of rugby they will play.  The timing is great because we will go from never playing a non-Irish side to playing an American, a Spanish and an Argentine team in the space of a week when we go on our own tour to Madrid the following weekend,” said Maher.

The Legends-Les Gasbarians game will kick off at 6.30pm, followed by the Railway-Monmouth game at 7.45pm.

With the usual support the Legends gets, in addition to forty Frenchmen, forty American girls and the Railway ladies, it promises to be a hell of a party in Railway that night !
