Railway’s Victory Dinner Dance
Railway Union RFC has never been one to rest on its laurels when it comes to social events. This season alone has seen a race night, Christmas party, Carol Singing not to mention the tour to Spain, quiz night and Kinsale 7s coming up in the next few months.
But there is one event that trumps all others – and that is the Annual Dinner Dance.
Members of the organising committee today revealed details of the 2013 Dinner Dance, leading with the exciting news that the event will be held in Rugby’s HQ at the Aviva Stadium. The date has been set as Saturday 20th April and tickets will cost €60 or €40 for students.
With such an elaborate venue, the dress code has been announced as black-tie, allowing for some much sought-after glamour from club members who usually see each other covered in mud.
The evening will begin with pre-drinks reception in the stadium at 7pm, with a 3-course meal starting at 8pm. This will be followed by speeches, awards and finally some dancing.
Speaking at the launch, Head organiser Grant Hourigan announced the reasoning behind the decision to host the event at the Aviva. “Last year’s Dinner Dance saw 120 members and their partners join together in the Burlington Hotel for a night of celebration and fun. We celebrated our achievements on the pitch and even more so the revival of the club”, said Hourigan. “This year, the occasion will celebrate the enormous expansion of the club and the tremendous success we have had on the pitch. With 3 teams winning their respective leagues this season alone, the organising committee decided that the event should be titled ‘The Victory Dinner Dance’ and an event celebrating so many achievements deserves a special venue”.
Head of Promotions and Marketing, Kirstin Smith also commented on the event. “Last year’s Dinner Dance was an overwhelming success. We had more guests in attendance than any other Dublin club including those with larger memberships. Last year we ran the Modelizers competition but with the introduction of women to the club this season, we believe that the Promotions and Marketing Committee are not needed as a matchmaker anymore.”
As usual, the annual awards will be announced on the night, with inaugural trophies being awarded to new teams within the club, namely Player of the Year for the Women’s 1st XV, Women’s Development, Under 21’s and Men’s 3rd XV. The hotly contested Club Person of the year Trophy will be up for grabs once again, as well as the announcement of those entering the “100 Caps Club”.
